An Overview
The concept is that there exists a plane, or universe, possibly only a “world” that is special within the Multiverse. It is known as Nakana. What makes Nakana special is that all things are possible on Nakana. Even the laws of physics are a bit contradictory here, but they resemble what we on earth can understand. Nakana would be what we call a normal universe compared to the “Quasi-planes.”
The quasi-planes ALL have a single planet, or indeed some are not even planets but flat, sometimes infinite, planes. They are called “quasi” because in some sense they are not fully formed, or continuing to form. There are one hundred (or 99 depending on how you count Nakana) quasi-planes. The higher numbered planes are those that have been in existence the longest — sort of. Rather in existence FIRST, but not the longest, for the time rate is different relative to each other.
Nakana is where the action is, where player characters adventure, where interesting things happen. Magic exists. Psyichic powers exist. Time, relative to most of the quasi-planes, is fast. The “old races” came from the quasi-planes, but they are old only in the sense that they existed first, not because they existed the longest.
Some races only exist on Nakana. They come and go from existence.
Most of the gods came (or come) from the quasi-planes. This is for a number of reasons that depend on the god. Often it is because they have more power on Nakana, or they simply like to “play” with mortals on Nakana. Some gods come and go. Some are truly old gods. On Nakana they interfere with mortals and often save their worshippers.
Generally speaking, Nakana can be thought of as being 3-4 million years old. There is no myth or understanding about its first moments of existence.
The rationalization for the rule changes for magic and technology (and psychic powers) is that Nakana continues to change and “anything is possible” (over time) in Nakana.
