The concept is an old one, used by many authors, movies, etc. The two most notable ones are The Witcher and the old Michael Moorcock series Elric.<\/p>\n
In my campaign the concept is indeed similar. Monsters and events occur when the multiverse collides\u2014when one universe temporarily overlaps.<\/p>\n
The \u201cmillion\u201d spheres is alluding to a multiverse and many<\/u> overlaps. This allows creatures that are not \u201cnormal\u201d or that disrupt the normal ecosystem to exist and drift over.<\/p>\n
For Nakana, the plane that player characters adventure on, there have been several conjunctions\u2014and loss of conjunctions.<\/p>\n
The understood multiverse is the 100 planes and the \u201cechos\u201d of Nakana. The gods, magic, and known races seem to all come from these 100 planes. Before recorded history, the first contact with Nakana occurred from these 100 planes, bringing creatures and magic.<\/p>\n
Yet, it was never understood by the first who crossed over where the existing creatures and magic and later technology came from. Some speculated there must be a whole other multiverse, or multiverses that are not part of the 100, or even echoes of Nakana. The speculation was sometime before contact with the 99 other planes Nakana must have had contact with other multiverses.<\/p>\n
The first tangible evidence that this was true was contact with a dying multiverse and a \u201cgod\u201d known as Arneth, who planned to invade Nakana. The fate of this invasion is in the cloudy future and has become obscured by the Apocalypse of the Black Dragon<\/em> \u2013 sometimes known as the Revenge of BeNaTarth <\/em>or by a minority group as A Small Price to Pay<\/em>.<\/p>\n The strange thing is after this apocalypse, where travel between planes ceased to occur, strange new creatures began to be seen on Nakana. A timeless tavern, known as Hone\u2019s Tavern, suddenly became stationary and at Hone\u2019s Tavern new creatures and races have been seen. Some speculate that Hone\u2019s Tavern lies at a permanent nexus point between multiverses. Others speculate that by severing ties with the 99 planes, Nakana was once again adrift in the sea of universes and could once again touch these universes. In other words the Apocalypse of the Black Dragon<\/em> may have caused a new Conjunction of a Million Spheres.<\/p>\n The concept(s) of Time and Space may not fully apply when the Conjunction occurs as some speculate that even the universe you \u201ctouch\u201d may be contacted at any time of its existence.
